Waiting lists through the NHS

Unfortunately some shocking figures have been recently released regarding the waiting lists in the UK for urgent mental health support; the number of children referred to emergency mental healthcare in England has soared by more than 50% in three years.

Although this particular news relates to children and young people who are requiring emergency support, such those who are suicidal and with eating disorders, it is likely echoed within adult mental health too.

In 2022, 1.4 million young people were referred to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (‘CAMHS’).  There are approximately 7.6 million 10-19 year olds living in the UK.

Dr Lockhart of the Royal College of Psychiatrists told the Guardian that many of the conditions arising in children could be prevented or treated if prompt support and access to care were available.

If you would like to discuss a concern regarding your child or yourself, please get in touch, if someone is at serious risk to themselves or others, please contact the emergency services.
